The beginning?
Cycle 10, Day 29, 14 DPO
Temp: 98.4
Cervical Mucus: Nothing
Cervix: Low, closed, firm

"Like as not, I'll wake up to a brand new cycle, as well, which should make for a highly pleasant day." Well, you didn't, did you? Auntie Flo is nowhere in sight, is she?

Shut up, little voice. I'm not pregnant, so you can just keep those insinuations to yourself.

And just how do you know that? You haven't tested, and your temps look golden. Plus your breasts are aching -

Oh, they were doing that even before I ovulated.

Even so. What about the nausea from this morning? You were barely able to lie still long enough to take your temperature!

Nausea can come from nerves, and although I know for a fact that I'm not pregnant, I won't deny that I'm anxious. I can't help that! Besides, I've had nausea before. Nausea, sore breasts, beautiful temps - none of it means squat. I won't believe anything but either eighteen days of high temps or a positive test.

So?

So what?

You've got a pregnancy test just sitting in the bathroom cabinet...

Not for this, I don't. I'm not wasting it when I know the result!

You'll never know unless you try.

Just go away.

Just one little test, and you could put your mind to rest.

I thought I told you to go away and leave me alone.

I've been with you for a year; you think I'm about to leave now? This is where things will finally start getting good!

We have an appointment on Friday with the fertility clinic. We've seen that we're not going to be able to do this on our own, so we're moving forward. This cycle was a bust. Why can't you accept that?

You can't, either.

I'd be doing one heck of a lot better if you would just leave me be! Go away!

Test, and I will.

No!

If I test now...

Yes?

If I test now, it will be negative. But the test will be gone, and I can move on. I won't be tempted anymore, because I won't buy any more tests.

Interesting rationale.

I'll do it. Let me grab a cup.
[Pause]
Why are my hands trembling? I've done this a million times before, and with far less certainty about the results?

Get on with it.

All right, all right. You know, it's not even first morning's urine, so it's even less likely to be positive...

Oh, my God.

That's a positive, folks.
