Gabe and I went to a playdate today at a playground; it was set up as a treasure hunt, and the kids followed clues to lead them to a treasure chest filled with goody bags. Gabe considered this Serious Business, and he studied those clues hard while following the mass of children dutifully making the circuit from one spot to the next.

He only had eyes for the fruit snacks in his bag, though. The pirate stickers and eyepatch went sadly neglected.
Gabe was also in love with the idea of the packed lunch I brought for us to share. He declared that we were having a “pick-pin” on the blanket, and he took that very seriously, too. I was amazed that there was only a token protest when it was time to leave; in the car on the way home, every time I tried to ask him something, he just hollered, “Where friends?!”
Tomorrow is my tenth wedding anniversary. If turning thirty doesn’t make you feel old (and I did that a year and a half ago), then this will do the trick nicely.
