Gabe, the less verbal of my two children, just came to me and said, quite clearly, “Put pretzels in a cup, so I may eat them.” Huh. Guess he doesn’t need caffeine in the morning to be sharp.
Sam’s report card came in the mail (all “Satisfactory” marks). This is cool; we found out his teacher’s name, and this woman will be his teacher for the next three years. He’ll be in a mixed-age class, first through third grades. I don’t know about you, but that really, really appeals to me; I mean, in the real world, how often do we get limited to interacting only with people born within a year of ourselves? He’s happy that his best kindergarten friend, Jacqueline, is also with this teacher. I’m happy that his old class bully, whom Sam idolized, isn’t.
Sam got a Junior Encyclopedia from a friend for his birthday, and the possibilities opening in his mind are great. He wants to make electric circuits and other things; yesterday, he and I read about insects, and he learned the difference between insects, arachnids, and myriapods. Little man is all about the learning; a couple of days ago, he told me that he wanted to go on a trip to Machu Picchu, “which is a town in South America, Mom.” I think we’ll check out Inner Harbor first; we’re going to see my folks in Maryland next week!
