Heading on down to West Virginia this morning to visit with Eric’s family. Mom and Dad sort of insisted, though they wouldn’t have had to; they’re lending us Mom’s car for the trip, which made it possible, though.
Haven’t seen Eric’s dad in about eighteen months, so this is sort of imperative. I’m pretty positive that Gabe will have no idea who he is.
Not, of course, that it should stop Gabe from loving him for more than the first few minutes. My boy is like that most of the time.
On the other hand we may see some initial sadness as we hit the road, before Gabe realizes what’s happening, because we now have a tremendous attachment between him and my dad. Mom, too, of course, but Papou is love.
The funny part is that he really seems confused about this whole “Papou” business. Sam has always called him “Papou,” for some reason we’ve never uncovered, yet Gabe knows that this is “Grandpa,” so where is this other name coming from? He’s toyed with calling my mom “Grandpa,” I guess so that there’s at least somebody around here going by that name.
Maybe we can get him to call Eric’s dad “Grandpa” to fix the situation.
Ran twenty-five minutes this morning! (It was raining yesterday, so I bumped my run a day.) Boy, Maryland is a lot more hilly than Wisconsin. Give me my little gravel bike path back! I ran on sidewalks, up and down hills, and it was much, much harder than I\’m used to doing. Still, did it! On to Week 7!
