The four of us, today

Me Eric
Kiddo Mr. Cheeks

It was a nice day, so after Sam’s scouting trip to the library, we stayed out a bit. Found a model train show at a local museum, and we spent some time there, enjoying our leisure. It’s been an easy, casual day – very laid-back and relaxed. :)

(Despite, naturally, the fact that only Sam is really smiling in his picture, a good time was had by all.)

    Carrie, you look simply amazing!

I for one would love to know more about your weight-loss journey. I’m curious to know what sort of mental shifts you made to get where you are today. You’ve never really talked about any difficulties with your weightloss, and I’m wondering if it was all as easy as you’ve made it seem.

Only if you care to share, however…

Thanks! I do have this summary written up from not too long ago, and not much has changed since then. I hit a few plateaus with regards to pound loss, but I didn’t get too upset, since I’ve really worked to change my focus away from weight and onto ability: how far/fast I can run, how much I can lift, etc. Since I’ve seen a steady improvement along those lines, I can let the scale numbers slide. :) I haven’t gained back any weight, so perhaps that’s easier to do than it might otherwise be.

One thing I had to do was to be an exacting drill sergeant for myself. I know darn well that if I let myself have too much leeway, I’m inclined to want more. I can not let myself take more than a day off from exercising without great reason. But after a while, it gets easier to stick to that. ;)

You look amazing! I have linked to this post on my blog – hope that’s OK – you look terrific and have inspired me to actually “do” something instead of just talking about it.

I have no idea what Sam was doing. Who opens a drawer full of preserved animal skins, with discernible faces with eyes holes and all, and thinks, “Ooh, a hat!”

It looks like Eric has been slimming down some too…?

I was wondering if your boys have made any comments about your (dramatic) physical and lifestyle changes. Have they even noticed? Do they look at older photos of you and comment on how different you look now? Honestly, if I hadn’t been keeping up with this blog over the past year, that photo up there with you in the tank top and shorts — I NEVER would have recognized that it was you.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — this weight loss/fitness journey of yours has been totally inspirational.
