Beaten

I feel like an egg, all ready for the pan. It’s not particularly hot outside, but I’m pretty sure that between the activities of yesterday and the combined runs of both days (3 miles yesterday, 10 today), I’ve managed to lose a lot more water than I replaced. I had to ask Eric what it meant that I came back in today smelling like ammonia. (Then, of course, I went and looked it up some more. Compulsive research, anyone?) I’d never say that I’m low on carbs, as a rule, but anything’s possible. On the other hand, I’ve been drinking less than usual, so I need to step up on that.
(Says the girl with the mug of espresso in front of her. Hey, it’s likely to be the only cup of the day, and I’ve already downed about 2L of water.
)
The Fourth was fun. I’d say it’s been the first year since moving here that I feel like the holiday didn’t “beat” us. I’ve mentioned this town’s crazy-psycho parade that goes on for about three solid hours, right? Well, this year, my morning run had me up early anyway, so I hopped in the car after that with our lawn chairs. Even at 6:30 AM, it was tricky finding good curb space, but I did it! And we were comfortable, not too crowded, and able to enjoy the parade to its fullest. I even thought ahead this year and brought snacks for the kids to (mostly) avoid the whole, “Buy me something, buy me something!” situation that always arises.
Then we had a great fireworks experience, too! We were toying with not going at all, since the crowds are always oppressive, it starts really late, and it goes really long. But we were downtown in the evening anyway, had the chairs still in the trunk, and since the boys were having fun playing at a park near where good seating was available, we decided to go for it. It was perfect!
I may yet get the hang of this town.
So the parents are coming into town tomorrow. Still readying the house for that, which would be easier if my head wasn’t still spinning a bit and I didn’t feel drowsy. Wish the extra water would kick in faster. Yeah, I’m the kid who always assumed that rubbing on a little Neosporin meant that the scrape should be completely healed by the next morning, too, and was shocked when it wasn’t. A nap would probably be most in order, but Eric’s at work dealing with some stuff, Sam’s outside with his friends, and I don’t feel okay about removing my consciousness from the equation at the moment. Gabe suffers no such compunctions, and his snores are making me jealous.
Apropos of nothing, we have yummy mulberries, and Eric says he might make a pie.

Sounds like a wonderful 4th.
We had one of the best 4ths too and I have lived in this town my whole life!
