Calm(ish) Day

I had a decent run this morning; nice and quiet, not too hot outside. I haven’t felt “great” since the whole medical stuff started, and now I think we’re heading into That Time of the Month, so I have that to eagerly anticipate.
I am looking forward to Saturday’s race, mind you, but a part of me wonders if I’m really just looking forward to running on that course, and if I wouldn’t be happier if I could just go run it, not for 5K, but for as long as I needed to go until I felt refreshed and happy.
I really don’t know when I’m going to get a chance to do that. Next week, I’m “only” scheduled for 10 miles, and the week after that, when I’m supposed to go for 14, is the day of Eric’s company picnic, which puts a damper on it; I’ll have to start really early to get the distance down. Then I’m going out with a gang of women for Kelly’s pre-wedding bash that night. Maybe I’ll have to try to get a nap in the afternoon or something. The next Saturday starts to fall into the time we’ve blocked out for a family vacation; I have no idea how I’m going to manage those runs, but I’m determined!
Anyway, after this morning’s run, and after Sam and Eric were gone for the day, I got to babysit for Sarah’s little girl. Gabe was thrilled by that, but little Emma wasn’t, really. She had some mild separation anxiety going on, and after an hour, she started to get pretty weepy. I finally popped her in the jogger and took her and Gabe for a walk, during which she nodded off. She woke up much happier, thank goodness. Boy, it’s been a while since I dealt with a little one for more than a few minutes. It’s easy to forget how to handle them!
There’s a big cycling race downtown today, and something similar tomorrow. I’m a little bummed; they have a race for 2-5 year olds, and then it skips to 10-year-olds. What about my little guy, who might be interested in being an “also-rode”? Hmph.
