Foot update

I got my new orthotics.
The new ones are on the left. The red part is the bottom. See how much padding I lost on the old ones? Yes, I’m positive that they needed to be replaced; now I’m just hoping that this will be enough, and that it isn’t just incidental to something else, or that I simply haven’t waited too long to replace them.
I put them in my shoes and experimented with running, thinking maybe I could finish this morning’s aborted run. No, the pain came back with a vengeance; I need to take it easy for at least the rest of the day. In the meantime…
There are two sides to doing this while Gabe naps. On the positive side, I don’t have to deal with him asking, over and over, what I’m doing or trying to dump little boats in on top of my foot. On the other hand, I can’t scream at the top of my lungs, which is the only thing I wanted to do for the first five minutes my foot was in there. For the second five minutes, it got progressively more tolerable, which was also unnerving; I pulled out after ten minutes, which the online consensus seemed to feel was where benefit met risk of tissue damage. I have no idea how people manage to take full-body ice baths after running. Maybe they have soundproof bathrooms.

Hee. Soundproof bathrooms.
Glad you got new ones. I have some (though I don’t run) and I think they need to be replaced soon.
I have to tell you, while I don’t run and am currently cooking a young’un in the oven, you really inspire me. I might have to do something after this kiddo shows up in February.

(i’m so sorry to hear the new orthotics didn’t do the trick. i know how frustrating it is to deal with pain when all you want to do is run. ::hugs::
i don’t know how people do the ice baths either. i tried it once and i couldn’t take the pain. it was way too much for me.)

May I ask– where did you get them from? I’ve been using ones I get for lots of $ from my chiropractor for about 15yrs. They do help(my hips) a ton. I am currently having really bad pain in my heel(like the meaty, bottom part) though and nothing is currently helping. Just wondering where you get yours and what they are.

I got them through my physical therapist’s office; they’re these, but…whoa, they charged me about half that. They must have a really good deal on them!
