Completely random and just out of curiosity

What are you having, or did you have, for breakfast today?

What are the best packed lunches, in terms of flavor and practicality?

(I had a cup of coffee and some homemade oatmeal bread with peanut butter for breakfast. As far as lunches go, I’m stumped, as everything that I know that tastes great is a pain to pack and to clean up later, and I don’t like doing them very often.)

PB&J. Made with high quality P&J and whole grain bread.

Breakfast: Coffee and instant grits (cheese flavored). Yes, I’m from the South.

Packed lunches: Depends whether you’re going to have access to a microwave during the day. Leftovers from dinner is my favorite lunch, but without access to a microwave, I prefer a rare roast beef sandwich with extra-sharp cheddar cheese and plenty of mustard, and some fruit. Throw in an ice-pack if you won’t have a fridge, either. (Or if you have time, freeze a water bottle the night before — it’ll keep the food cool but be drinkable by lunchtime!)

    For breakfast, nada.

For portable and healthy lunches, I like to pack a small cup of hummus with a container of veggies: broccoli, cauliflower, celery, red peppers, carrots, maybe some pretzels. Cubed cheese, a few crackers.

You know, you might want to look into bento as an option. It’s a great way to use up leftovers and they are easy to pack and clean.

For breakfast I had an english muffin with peanut butter (ran yesterday, plan to run or ellip this afternoon). Lunches are crazy so I won’t even go there. Totally random.

I had a bagel with cream cheese as a breakfast-lunch hybrid. I really wish I’d had leftover salmon to go on top or an heirloom tomato. Slices of heirloom tomatoes with just a bit of sea salt are amazing atop a bagel…

My breakfasts are so monotonous but it works for me. I almost always have whole wheat toast with a thick spread of peanut butter (two slices) because I finally learned that if I don’t have the protein then I get shaky and nauseous before lunch.

I don’t pack lunch for myself. Are you looking for kids stuff or adult fare?

Both adult and child; Sam will need lunches, and Eric would like to have more lunch ideas to take with him to work.

Robyn, Eric has a Bento and loves it. :-) Thought about one for Sam, but he loves his Superman lunchbox. I don’t know that I’d be able to convince him to switch happily unless it was a really, really cool Bento.
