Runners: Open Thread

I screwed up my math this week and ran too much, meaning I didn’t have enough mileage left inside the 10% rule (don’t increase your mileage more than 10% per week) to allow for much of a long run today. Probably better that way, anyway, what with the Komen race tomorrow. Maybe I saved myself some aches and pains through my addition error. :-) The running club planned route was only a little over five miles, which fit nicely with what I was able to run, so it worked out.

I decided to supplement a little by biking to and from the run; they started at a point only about three miles from home, so that wasn’t difficult at all. I did take a meandering route home, to blast away any leftover lactic acid in my legs. All in all, it was a very satisfying day! Nothing was too strenuous; in fact, during the run I spent so much time chatting with other runners that I wound up going at a very relaxed pace. This week I’ve been having some issues with feeling tired, probably due to not drinking enough water, so an easy, cheerful run like this felt great!

Tomorrow is the race, and I’m really feeling good about it. I don’t anticipate getting a PR, remembering how crowded it was last year and how much time I spent trying to wipe away tears so I could see, but that’s not really the point of this one for me. I’m out there for my heart, not my body.

Anybody else racing this weekend? Having some relaxed running time instead?
