I'm sure they took her to the hospital where she got examined and evaluated and, presumably, is getting hooked up with the social services she so desperately needs. The police are/were definitely the best entry point to getting her both to safety and folks much better equipped to help her. Do not doubt that you did the right thing by calling the police.
