Well, well, well…

So Thanksgiving came and went, and Black Friday arrived to let Eric and me sleep in for an extra day. I actually did the “door-busting” thing last year, just to experience it, and I didn’t buy anything; it was surreal enough to simply witness the massive lines and chaos surrounding me.

So we didn’t get up early this year, especially since we’d decided to limit the items purchased to only a few things for each of us. Frankly, there’s just not enough room around here for piles of crap, and the boys are happy enough with what they have. There are only a couple of things that have been mentioned around here consistently enough to make it apparent that they weren’t just passing fancies that would fade as quickly as they arose. One of them was, well…

Merry Christmas!    Transferring

The old computer was now very, very outdated. My iPod died a week ago, losing a complete battery charge in about an hour, and all the new iPods were incompatible with our older OS. My Garmin has never been able to “talk” to our computer. Lots of other little things, and Eric was getting antsy; “Want to replace the Mac?” has been a frequently bandied-about question for the past six months or so. And then the Black Friday sales went up, and Eric decided we’d go for it.

Already, the coolest thing has been video-chatting with my parents, who also replaced their old computer with a Mac recently. That was simply awesome!

Anyway, Merry Christmas to us! I think we all feel pretty darn spoilt about now. ;) And with the snow that fell last night (only a couple of inches, but more might be on the way Wednesday), it feels relieving to have this to play with instead of just growling out the window.

Might go out to the gym here in a bit. I already feel my resolve to keep running outside slipping away some. Running in the cold or in falling snow is one thing, but…post-holing an entire run? What do you do when there’s significant snow on the ground? These look a bit rich (and INSANE) for my blood. Seriously, I’m at a loss. If I stick to places that get plowed and shoveled quickly, I’ll be dealing with random ice patches on mostly dry ground, so my YakTrax will be next to useless for the slipping (can’t wear them on clean pavement). If I stick to the few unplowed areas I can list, I’ll be hopping through drifts and exhausting myself. Can I win?

Holidailies sign-ups are going on! Get you some! ;)

Did you take an iMac? I take it 3 months ago .. it’s fantastic … and I don’t have problem with garmin. What program do you use?

Yep, an iMac. :) Our old Mac was an older operating system, too far behind the Garmin’s software to connect. I just started up Garmin Training Center yesterday for the first time, and…I’m underwhelmed. I guess I expected more! Looking at Ascent now, but it’s not free…not sure whether it would be worth it.

I saw yesterday of Ascent. The problem is the “not free” :(

If you have a windows machine you can try SportTracks … it’s fantastic :)

I don’t like the “Garmin Training Center” :(

Nope, no Windows machine. (Though I wonder if the Intel side of this Mac could be made to work with it? I honestly have no idea how that works.)

If you want Windows on the Mac you have two way:
    1) Use Boot Camp (search on apple site)
    2) Use a vitual machine like VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org) it’s simple and free :)

I add your blog on my feed reader … I lost all time your link :(
