Ugh, now I feel guilty! I was not thinking slushy puddles. Don't listen to me anymore, obviously.

I hate freezing rain and sleet, too. Much prefer snow any day.

Ha, the longer I run, the better I am getting at finding the perfect gear for the weird Great Lakes region seasons. My current best combo for Winter...Gore-Tex trail shoes (mine are NB 1110GT) + YakTrax. I get traction AND I can step in the random "wintry mix" puddle and my feet stay mostly dry (BTW, what jerk coined that term...wintry mix. It sounds so cute and pleasant, but is anything but).

I also saw you asked about taller socks. I REALLY like some of the medium weight Smartwool socks. I'd still like something a hair taller, but the come over the bottoms of my thermal tights, so it's OK. I am hoping to try their trail running socks soon. Those look fairly tall.
