Well, my relay might be falling through, after all.
Turns out that the relay the guy had in mind was a different race than the one I thought, and although his looks like fun, too, it’s the weekend of the Marine Corps Marathon. No good this year. I tried half-heartedly to persuade him to do the Ice Age, anyway, but I doubt he’ll go for it. I’m really incredibly bummed now. I was getting all excited!
To console myself, I’m throwing myself headlong into preparing for Kenosha, and by that, I mean the details. I’m playing with fueling, and I’m questioning everyone I know about techniques for carrying and using gels, blocks, fluids, salt. I’m examining my Fuel Belt, deciding whether to replace it or just add a pouch (the pocket is infinitesimal!), and looking at outfits with pockets. Oh, outfits! What to wear? Should I get one of the witty running-themed Bondi Bands?
And the training itself is going very well. This was a “step back week,” so my long run was only 10 miles. Next week, for Valentine’s Day, I have a 16-miler planned, which works out nicely; Eric and I are going out that night, and after running sixteen miles, I figure I can have allllllll the sushi I want!
Anybody else planning or training for upcoming races? What’s consuming your mind?
Princess, Princess, Princess.
I had three days off this week, thanks to being sick, but I turned out a really good short run today. I registered Joe and I for the local Valentine 5k, which I told him about when I did it but is only occurring to him now that he’s registered for a 5k next weekend..
I want to PR. I hope to go under 50 minutes. Current PR is 52:19, and my current training is significantly faster than my training for RFTC was. So it’s possible.. entirely possible.
And then three weeks after that, Princess.
I find my thoughts turning toward what I can reasonably expect of myself and what sort of result I would be happy with – and I’m trying to direct myself away from that thinking as much as possible. I fully believe the phrase “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right,” so it doesn’t really do me any favors to think what I might settle for.
I want that medal. It means I have to train hard, but not so hard I break myself. There’s a balance, and I have to find it.
(Aren’t you glad you asked?
)
I’m currently hoping a two weeks off from running will do my ankle some good. That the boot camp, the elliptical, and kickboxing aren’t making it worse.
My next thought is how I’m going to need to focus on hill training to prepare for San Francisco.
Quite a few people have told me I carry way too much on my belt and that it’s slowing me down but I don’t care. I want my sports drink, plain water, mobile phone, and digital camera with me.
I’m dealing with an inflammed It band and the anxiety of wondering how this will affect my 25k on the 1st. Did 16 miles yesterday followed by an ice bath, stretching and using the foam roller. Oh, and some advil and felt great. Today I’m a little tight and hoping I losen up in time for a the Chilly Chili 5k this afternoon. Don’t plan on racing it just running and enjoying it. It’s a run/walk anyways. Have finally decided to do a 50K so now the decision as to late summer or fall and which race. A whole new learning curve as to what to eat and when. I have yet to run a race with a fuel belt but do plan on using it for my 25K. I did run my marathon with a Nathan 10K elite pack. Held all my fuel, inhaler, small size sunscreen. I wore the Nike running arm wallet phone band on my arm. Carried my phone and a $20. I always run with my phone.
Have you seen the buffs at planetbuff.com? The bondi looks similar. I think the buff is larger and can do more with. Right now I use my as a gaiter.
My yoga DVDs just arrived! I’m working on my post-eating, and I get released from post-partum care on Thursday.
This means I’m also planning my race schedule and travel time, and researching workout and training schedules.
I’ve signed up for Trek in July, an indoor tri, and a 5k. I want to do another couple of tri’s this year, and hopefully do the Brewhouse Olympic in Duluth the first week of August.
If I make all of that, my stretch is the Twin Cities Half Marathon in October.
After reading about your C25K trek, as well as some on other sites, I started on the program myself. Today was Week 6, Day 1 (yep, survived that 20 minute run on Thursday). I am training for the Mermaid 5K (women only and a nice flat path- hope that’ll help in my first race) on March 22nd…so I’ll be done with C25K and have a couple of weeks to get my distance up (I know they say 20 minutes or 2 miles, but mine was 1.75 mi in 20 minutes, so I’ll probably need a little extra time to work up to the actual 3.1 mi at the end).
