I personally find it really non-intuitive to have vegetables and fruits all day long. Dinner, yes, will have vegetables, and lunch will often have the leftovers from that. Breakfast might have fruit. But I have to stay very conscious about it all; it’s not something that I can do without thinking. Yesterday, I had six servings of fruits and veggies, combined, and that was after I realized I was running low and made myself include some raw carrots and a black bean dip as a snack. (Does the black bean dip even count? Don’t answer that.)
Actually, though, now it looks like they’ve switched things up yet again, as far as recommendations go. The CDC site is now telling me I need two cups of fruit and three cups of vegetables each day. I think that’s lower than it was. I can’t remember, though; my brain is still operating on the Four Food Groups standard.
Yogurt with fruit chunks in it counts as a serving, right…?
Here the message is “5+ a day”, so a minimum of five servings of fruit and vegetables. I try to get that, but don’t always succeed. I’m terrible with remembering to eat fruit but good with vegetables.
I snack on pineapple throughout the day, but rarely eat veggies. I pretty much only like corn and potatoes, neither of which are easily snackable. *g*
Here’s what I try to go by…

Liz – I just looked it up, as I was curious. Turns out that what they put in yogurt is actually more like jam or preserves than fruit, and there’s not enough of it to count as a serving.
