Mixed-up Friday

Woke up early this morning, ready to run (normally have to start really early on Fridays, so as to be done my mid-length run before Eric leaves for work), only to find ice over the earth. It was a very thin layer, too thin for YakTrax to help, so I had to regroup, reassess…and muster up my motivation to do 9.2 miles on a treadmill. Call me Peaches the Hamster, I guess.

Fridays are normally violin class days for Sam, but today he’s on a field trip to the Big City Museum for his grade’s unit on Africa. This also meant that I had to go out in search of paper lunch bags and prepackaged drinks for him instead of sending him with his lunchbox and thermos.

Eric ordinarily goes out with his friends for drinks after work on Fridays, but he’s not sure whether that’s happening or not tonight. He said he’d call or email when he knew, but I’ve heard nothing yet. Well, if he comes home, he’s getting pizza delivery for dinner; I’d have put effort into cooking if I was sure he’d be here, but since it’s possibly just me and the boys and I’d love to chill and relax for tomorrow morning’s long run…oh, did I load up that pizza with all sorts of lovely vegetables. Roasted red peppers! Spinach! I’m drooling in anticipation.

On the whole, I sort of feel mentally like I did when I took my first step out the door this morning: slippery, off-balance, scrambling for equilibrium.
