Runners: Open Thread

First things first. Runners: when at all possible, especially on busy streets, we are to run facing traffic, not with it. There were scads of runners out this morning, far more than our running club, and many of them were just running wherever they seemed to feel like it. Dude, no wonder drivers seem to get agitated when they see me; in their experience, I might decide to suddenly dodge out to the center line and dance the Macarena.

Today’s twenty-one (!!!) miles weren’t quite as euphoric as the twenty of two weeks ago, but that probably would have been asking too much. Also, since it’s entirely possible that I won’t be in that heavenly realm of the perfect running mind on Race Day (though I might!), it’s good to see what it feels like to run that far when I’m feeling less the Energizer Bunny. The answer: it feels doable. And that’s enough, isn’t it?

Lots of dogs out again today. I don’t want a pet, I still think, but I am feeling out ways to get around that and perhaps have a little companionship on some of my runs. Wish I could just borrow my neighbors’ dog, but I don’t know them well at all, and he doesn’t seem particularly well-trained, anyway.

P.S. Tried Clif Shot gels this week. Maybe it was coincidental, but I don’t feel like they settled as well as the Hammer.
