Much of this weekend is better left undiscussed.

Ahem. Anybody read this, care to weigh in on it, etc.? Oh, Gabe…

But Eric did get me a few things I needed and am looking forward to using. Heading into warmer weather, I just can’t make my men’s size large shorts go another running season, so we went by a Nike outlet and got this (in blue) and this (in black with pink stripes) and this (discontinued entirely). I realize that those skirts are marked as “tennis” and not as running skirts, but I don’t think that will be a problem; the main difference, as far as I can tell, is that these have longer compression-style shorts underneath instead of little panty things. These were the ones on the clearance rack, though. ;) I’ll still need one or two more bottom pieces and some smaller tops.

Of course, this morning I was running in multiple layers in freezing temperatures, so my pretty new things will wait. I’m starting to do the pee-pee dance, trying to figure out what I’ll wear for the marathon. I wish Wisconsin were more predictable! The race is a month out, and it could be in the mid-50s, or it could be high 30s. Argh! I’m thinking I might need a set of these (click through the pictures to see the patterns!), just to cover my bases, though I’m reluctant to spend the money; would they be worth it? Anybody tried them?

Boy, I’m just a big ball of “testify, please?” this morning, aren’t I? Well, while I’m doing that, might as well go all the way: who has a dishwasher they love or detest? Lower echelon, please; I don’t need it to mow my lawn for me. Just something that does a decent job cleaning dishes, holds a reasonably large load, and doesn’t sound like a Boeing aircraft.

I think the kind of dishwasher you will be happy with depends upon what kind of dishwasher YOU are. If you are a prescrubber and can’t resist swiping the dishes as you load (I grew up without a dishwasher–what can I say?), then what you really want out of a dishwasher is basically a sterilizer. If you only rinse dishes as you load, you’re going to want one with extra-long cycles to get stuff clean. I am a prescrubber, my husband is a rinser. Our dishwasher, a Kenmore Ultra Wash (with EnergyStar rating) seems to do the trick for both of us. It’s certainly not fancy–no stainless interior or anything, but it works fine and is reasonably quiet. The cycles aren’t overly long, either, which I understand can be quite a problem with the some brands.

I also prefer my cutlery to reside in the bottom rack, in a lift-out basket rather than in the door. It’s just a personal preference, but if you don’t get what you want, it will annoy you Every. Single. Time. you load cutlery.

I also love my adjustable top rack, which can move up and down to accomodate tall sports water bottles and the tall water goblets/wine glasses I use at holiday dinners.

It goes without saying that you need to bring a box of your dishes along to the store when you shop. Bring your largest/tallest cutting board, your tallest glasses, a dinner plate, a salad bowl–your most frequently used dishes–and see if they fit the interior and don’t block the rotating spray arms.

    Hope this helps, Sue

my friends swear by the Sears brand dishwashers.
[I have had dishwashers, but they don't ever seem to do a good job at what they are supposed to do, so I'll cite my friends' experiences with good results.] They’re not as expensive as some and do a much better job. My friends have spent a lot of money on dishwashers, and were unhappy w/ them. The Sears brand does a great job on nasty dishes. My friend puts them in very dirty (I could not believe how nasty the dishes were when she loaded them), and the come out clean. I really truly could not believe what a good job it did. I was stunned. I had no idea any dishwasher did work like that. No food in the bottom of the dishwasher.

I did read that book a few years ago and I remember it being for pretty extreme behaviour. I think it was mostly for children that are heading towards a diagnosis of ODD.

We bought a bottom of the range Simpson dishwasher. We have had it for the past 5 years and love it to bits!! It’s still in perfect condition even though we don’t really look after it as well as we could.
We are in Australia so I don’t know what types of brands you have over there.
    Good luck!

I just bought a bosch in December. It is so quiet I can hardly tell it is running AND it uses about 1/3 the dishpowder that the old one did.
