Green Bay, Day 2

To summarize: started fair enough, hit a high point in the afternoon, then deteriorated quickly over dinner, leaving us with feelings of exhaustion and frustration.
Filling in the details, we did breakfast here at the hotel, which was great for everybody else but underwhelming for me. Seriously, no bagels? Not even a packet of instant oatmeal? I’m planning on getting something tomorrow at a grocery to tide me through for the rest of the week, at least in cooperation with the fruit and coffee the hotel provides. Then we went to the hotel waterpark, which was great for all except Gabe, though that was predictable; he still hates all things watery.
After enjoying/tolerating that for a bit, we went back to the room, dressed, and headed for Bay Beach Amusement Park, which was fantastic. Seriously, even Gabe loved it – my kid who normally is terrified of carousel rides! With tickets costing next to nothing, we were able to let the kids ride everything they wanted for a grand total of five dollars. Woo! And there was even a playground, where they ran and cavorted to their hearts’ content. I think we’ll go back later on, perhaps with a picnic lunch in tow.
Then we went to Cooks Corner. I think we all expected more from that, but Eric really enjoyed it, finding a few things he’s been seeking for a while now. The kids, unfortunately, were on a downward behavior spiral, despite the store’s play area. By the time we got to dinner at Titletown Brewing Co. (where I had the cranberry tukey melt: nice and soft, and on zucchini bread!), they were hanging on by a thread, and when I had to leave the table to visit the restroom, all hell apparently broke loose in my absence.
Mostly Gabe, it seems; when we got back to the hotel, Eric took Sam to the pool again, while I sat back and watched Gabe unravel until he was finally asleep.
I feel exhausted just thinking about starting over tomorrow. Thank God, the day is due to start with a run.
In other news, Sam has a new, odd “tic.” He’s coughing and clearing his throat at night and in the morning in bed – allergies, I think – and after each cough, he mutters, “Okay…” I asked him not to, and he said, “I’m just testing my voice out,” and he won’t stop. He does it more quietly, but…argh! Hopefully, it won’t grow beyond those brief periods.

Alice did a coughing tic thing for a while. I took her to the doctor, and he examined her and said that she didn’t have any obvious reason to be coughing, that it was most likely a habit, but every time she does it, it irritates her throat a little bit, which makes her feel like she needs to do it again. He looked at her very sternly and told her to stop doing it and she did. Right then. Shocked me.
Maybe not directly applicable to your situation, but I thought I’d share.

Sam’s tic sounds similar to his mother’s old habit of saying “no” every time she made a mistake while practicing piano.
