Green Bay, day 4

As Eric put it today, the vacation is mostly a success, except for whenever we eat. Seriously, every time we try to hit a restaurant, everything goes to pot, with the whining and the complaining and the refusing to eat foods they ordinarily love and the fighting over crayons…ugh. Today, we tried to eat at Kavarna, where I’d been dying to eat since we started looking at Green Bay in the first place; I showed Sam the website last week, and he was enthusiastic about the melted peanut butter sandwich, so I thought he, at least, would be fine.

A block before we got there, he started whining. He didn’t want peanut butter. Fine, I say; eat what you want. He got the egg salad, made special to eliminate the sprouts and tomatoes…and then he refused to eat it. (Gabe eyed the scene cheerfully, enjoying his cheese pita with great relish and suggesting that we not give Sam any more treats again.)

Meh. But I got to spend some time alone at Captain’s Walk after that, doing a tasting, so it’s all better now. Yum. ;)

This morning, before all that, was better; we hit the National Railroad Museum, which was fun for everybody. Seriously, I’m not even a train buff, but I was fascinated! The history of the porters and the role of race and civil rights was particularly interesting; I know I’d never learned anything about that, but now I want to hit the library.

Tonight, we ordered in pizza and ate in the hotel room, then went to the pool. It was raining, so that was an easy answer. ;) Tomorrow morning is supposed to be clear again for my run; I’ll be back at the first trail, since today’s was sort of dull and much more isolated. Rain in the afternoon, though, so we need to decide what to do then. A movie, maybe!
