I have a dentist appointment this morning, in order to put a permanent crown on the tooth they fixed a couple weeks ago. Hopefully, hopefully, this will be the last of the dental work for a while. As I told Mom last night, I like my dentist, but I’d really like the opportunity to do it less frequently.
Plus, even though everybody says that this will be a nothing appointment – no pain, no worries – since when has a dentist appointment ever worked that way for me? I mean, other than when I was put to sleep for the extraction, and I’d bet that something unexpected probably happened then, too, without me knowing it. Circus elephants or something. Or birds in the office; yeah, that’s probably it. Freaking birds.
Going out to dinner with Eric and a coworker of his tonight. This should be nice, very low-key and relaxing. And, also in the category of “relaxing,” we’re thinking of going out for a candlelight hike at a nature preserve Saturday night. It’s supposed to be just gorgeous, and I want to enjoy every bit of this temperate weather that I can before The Freeze comes along. Gabe may prove the only hurdle for the outing; he’s developed some pretty strong negative feelings about sloping trails, somehow. He thinks they’re all “cliffs” and freaks out that he’s going to fall off them. He doesn’t want to be carried along them, either; he wants to stand perfectly still and SCREAM. Good times. Might have to see if there’s an elevation-marked trail map available.
We keep plugging away. So far, third grade beats second grade, and preschool is awesome, though we had our first “talk” with Gabe’s teacher. It was a mild one, though; apparently, he keeps playing with his hands and making guns, which is distracting. If that’s the worst he does, I’ll be in heaven.
