Did you at least have access to a book, or is it a case of the library being closed by the time you found out?
Could be worse – we usually get those requests Sunday at 5pm! (Children’s librarian. *g*)
THis book report business brings back real Bad MEMORIES!! iT WAS A long TIME AGO, BUT SEEMS JUST LIKE YESTERDAY…ARG!!
THink you need to have teachers schedule of when these reports are due…and the info WELL in advance.
This is the only thing I hated as a mother….having to ‘crap out’ a report at a moments notice. It sets a really bad TONE for the rest of the school year when you are waiting for the big DEMAND like you are some kind of a magican…for heaven sakes!!!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Argh. We had this problem last weekend – a long weekend here – wherein my grade 4 daughter had a 3-5 minute oral report on a current event that was due right after thee weekend. She needed a trip to the library to choose an event, a trip to the store for posterboard, help on the computer with background research, then hand-holding while she wrote the thing and made the poster. It totally dominated the weekend and I was furious with her for not telling me about it sooner, and also with the teacher for not giving longer to do it. Well, actually… it eventually turned out that the only thing that was really due was to CHOOSE the event and show the article to the teacher. Not to prepare the whole thing. I just about bust a vein out of my forehead with the effort it took not to throttle my dear daughter.
Good luck with the report. I’d like to think that our kids will learn a valuable lesson with experiences like this, but I have my doubts!
