The Halloween that never ends

So Eric and I are going to a party tomorrow night – the same host as the Halloween party we went to last year. I wasn’t sure until a few days ago whether I’d be able to go (hurray for sitters!), so I was scrambling for a last-minute costume. Our temporary Halloween store (a pumpkin-shaped dome in a parking lot) had closed, most of the stores were out of stock, and the only place with any selection at all left was…WalMart. Ugh. Haven’t been there since the shooting, but I also wasn’t feeling the creative costumey spirit now that the actual holiday has passed, so a bagged costume was what was happening.

When I say “a selection,” I’m being very generous. What they were was cheap, so I bought two and haven’t made up my mind yet. Oh, the shame:

Which travesty should I don?

Forgive me for making you look at that. For the record, the “Sugar Baby” dress is slightly more flattering, but…well…and Eric will be wearing a latex mask of a Jack o’Lantern. Very creative; we’re sure pulling out all the stops this year.

Gabe is making up for it. He was given a scarecrow art project to do yesterday at MOPS; they were to color the scarecrow, cut it out and glue it to a paper plate, and decorate the plate like a field. I give you his results:

The "scarecrow"

DO make sure to click it and read all the notes, just to get the full effect. I anticipate more than one trip to the school counselor’s office in his future. Possibly also a highly successful career in the arts, though; seems like most of the artists I’ve known head this way at some point. ;)

I think Argen might be headed down the same path…..the other day he coloured a truck with “lots and lots of smoke” and “lazer fire from the wheels so he can shoot, and make more smoke!” His truck didn’t have any specific target, so I’m not too worried.

Have you considered maybe a creative one that isn’t very creative, but still not store-bought? There are some good ideas here, including an electrified runner:

I like Kates ideas best :)

And you really should watch Dr Who without Gabe for a bit ;)

So, I’m curious which costume you ended up going with (and where are the pictures?!)?
