Race Report: Smoke the Turkey 5K

Good friends run with you. Very good friends go running with you even when they aren’t runners and, in fact, hate running.
When I told Alysia I was coming to visit, and I asked how far away a particular Thanksgiving Day 5K was from her place, I was gobsmacked when she told me to sign her up, too.
Well, she did it. I even have photographic proof (which I’ll have to upload later)! We had to go out last night to buy her an actual pair of running shoes, but she laced them up bright and early this morning and proceeded to whomp my own first 5K time by about ten minutes.
I didn’t do poorly, myself, though! I got a PR – about a minute faster than my last 5K record. I finished in 23:42, tenth in my age group and 225th overall. It was a pretty flat course, through the streets of a very picturesque neighborhood, and the weather was cold but not freezing. Perfect! Had I stayed in town and done my usual Turkey Trot, it would have been in sleet, snow, and 30-mile-per-hour winds, so I’ll take that alone as a win!
Then I went and had turkey with my family. What could be finer? Happy Thanksgiving Day, everybody!
