Will it? Won’t it?

Well, there’s snow on the ground…sort of…I mean, you can see it there, but it’s not what we were expecting. We’re in Wisconsin, which means that we get Snow, and our weathermen have been salivating like basset hounds under a Thanksgiving banquet table over the signs surrounding today and tomorrow. Huge, heaping whomps of snow! Piles and piles of it! But…not quite. Or maybe we’ll get some, but now it looks like we may or may not get a bunch. Could be a foot; could be a few inches, except that it’ll be comprised of tiny little flakes of wet doom, each weighing as much as a Volkswagen. Gah. Who knows?
All I know is that I’m supposed to run seven miles tomorrow, and I had my fill of treadmilling for the week already. Gabe didn’t have school today, it being Tuesday, and I couldn’t very well push a jogging stroller through the snow, even with only an inch or so. I suppose I could have gone in the wee hours of the morning, before Eric left for work, and I could do that tomorrow if school gets canceled for both kids, but I really hate running in the snow and ice with only a flashlight to light my way. It has to happen on occasion, but that doesn’t mean I don’t dread it.
Might be the last year I can discuss the kids’ Christmas presents on this page (sooner or later, Sam’ll catch onto me!), but I’m considering snowshoes this year. Even Eric seemed intrigued by the idea, so if I can find good enough deals, maybe we can all get some and have some family fun time.
I’m not really a fan of extended time in freezing weather, but as we live in the frozen north, we might as well make the best of it, right? We should probably even take the kids sledding; we got them a sled, but they’ve never used to it go down a hill steeper than what gets formed from shoveling our driveway into the yard. Admittedly, that’s pretty darn steep in these parts, compared to what I grew up knowing, but still…
I think I’m just grumpy due to not knowing exactly what’s happening tonight (or even right this moment; it’s dark out there!) or how to prepare for it. If it’s going to snow, I want to see it coming; if it’s not, that’s more than fine, but I don’t want to psych myself up unnecessarily. That bizarre little character in my brain who rejoices in chaos and calamity always gets so disappointed when life continues as usual.

Well, here in Madison it’s a blizzardy wonderland! I did hear on the news, though, that your neck of the woods has been getting mostly rain/freezing rain, which is much less pretty.
Everything’s shut down to your west, though. The University cancelled classes for the first time in the six years I’ve been here (and a colleague who’s been here eight says the same). Crazy! But we’re enjoying the snow day, that’s for sure!
