In Haiku

Oh, so very done
This day: so much longer than
the clock defined it.

Christmas shopping “fun”!
Younger son out of control.
Older? Not better!

When do they outgrow
the tantrums? The whining that
makes my brain shatter?

And why do they choose
this “jolly,” crowded season
to really push things?

“Santa is watching…”
They don’t give a flying crap.
I dream dreams of coal.

I could be that mom,
the one who cancels Christmas.
Don’t you push me, kid.

Ho, ho, humbug, boys.
Haven’t bought you a thing yet.
Thinking socks and combs.

You should feel darn glad
you have another two weeks
to change my tired mind.

  1. Angie says:

You’re in my head, and doing it in haiku. I’ve been threatening to cancel Christmas, in my less than stellar moments.

  2. In answer your
    Question about when tantrums
    Stop, no haiku, but…
