Eric switched his weekly Scrabble game around to last night so that he could do a Build-It night tonight with Sam for the Scouts Derby. Unfortunately, that went into limbo when he came up unexpectedly early from the Scrabble game and, um, “scrabbled” up the stairs with a bowl in his arms, at the ready. He felt wretched, and while I was sympathetic, I was also groaning inwardly over having accepted his offer to share his soda over lunch earlier. I’d even thought to ask at the time whether he was sure he wasn’t sick, though I was thinking more in terms of a head cold. Well, he wasn’t sick…then.
I went to bed at my usual time, but a few hours later, I woke to the sensation of twinging and cramping in my guts. It felt a little like labor pains, and it got progressively worse. I wound up spending half the night in pain, groaning and trying to find a comfortable way to rest. This morning, there’s still some residual and intermittent pain; Eric is staying home from work with his own misery. No vomiting, just pain.
And here I am, trying to decide if I feel up to squeezing in an easy, mid-length run this morning.
Actually, I wonder whether it might even help a little. My biggest worry at this point is that one of the kids will be struck next; I don’t know exactly how I’d help them through it. Also sort of relieved that Eric did go to Scrabble last night, or I’d be trying to puzzle out whether it could have been something I cooked that did it. As it is, the last thing we ate together (at a restaurant; a small bowl of chili was the only thing we ate in common) was about six or seven hours prior to that, so it’s an unlikely candidate.
I tried signing up for Devil’s Lake this morning, the first I’d seen that online registration was open, but a glitch at the final step led to a screen telling me to hit refresh to resubmit. I did, and then again, and then I slapped myself and shot off an email to the race director asking him to please check to see whether I’d registered myself three times or not at all. Yay, technology.
So, once that’s done, I’ll be officially registered to do both Green Bay and that for the year. It’s still up in the air whether or where I’ll be running in the fall; travel races can add up, financially, so if I do a fall marathon (yes, please!), it might be Lakefront, in Milwaukee, instead of the Air Force Marathon in Dayton. Still time to decide.
OOOOhhhh Dayton! You can stay with us for free! It’s about 35-40 minutes away. If that helps w/ the financing part. Dont know if you’d drive down or fly? (we’re in Cincinnati)
Just putting it out there if it might help you make your plans!
