Doesn’t feel like a weekday

The problem with summer break is that the days lose their sense of identity. It’ll get better when the kids start their summer school classes, but with other major activities also on hiatus, the weekdays just run together into a big smushed-up pile of Life. Today, we had Eric home in the morning for a doctor appointment, to which we drove him, which caused the whole day to feel like Saturday. Now he’s back at work, the kids are outside, and…I have no idea what it feels like anymore.

I know it’s not Saturday, though. If it were Saturday of this week, I’d either be out running 26 miles or exhausted from having done so already. That’ll be a treat; I’ll be all alone for the run, the rest of the running club not having the need to cover as much ground on trails as they can, and there are thunderstorms threatening. Oh, and the matter of my IT band. All told, this could be a real trial of a run. I think I’m already accepting the foregone conclusion that Sunday’s ten-mile recovery is going to involve a lot of walking.

(Side note: Oh, please tell me that’s not Gabe throwing another epic tantrum out there. I had to pull the boys in from playing with friends yesterday when I heard him start screaming in anger from all the way down the block. Mmm, okay, I don’t hear anything else, so if it was him, it was an isolated holler. We’ll just keep listening.)

Especially funny is that we have a wedding reception to attend later in the evening on Saturday. Here’s hoping for plenty of chairs, as well as relief that even if there is dancing, Eric definitely comes down on the side of spectator, not participant. Ordinarily, I try to beg at least one or two turns around the dance floor out of him, but he may get off lucky this time. ;)

Oh, crap! Here’s something that just threw me: tonight is the church’s “School’s Out Bash” (our answer to VBS; the whole family attends a series of evening events scattered over the summer), which I almost completely forgot! See, it doesn’t feel like Friday!
