Trick-y Candy
Against all odds (my head felt much better by noon), I took Sam to the zoo today. They were having a Halloween even for the kids, and Sam went from station to station doing a modified Trick-or-Treat. (Sam, of course, leaves nothing to chance in the "treat" department and says "Trick-y Candy!" instead.)
Witness my little cowboy:
I really wish Eric had come with us, as Sam needs a "rear guard" in these situations. He won't go ahead of me, but he can't stay on task to follow, either. Holding hands? Not for long. I don't mind letting him wander a bit, but I think it's fair to say that we probably covered twice as much ground as would have been strictly necessary. Ow, my feet.
But he's happy, and he got way more candy than he'll eat in a month (not that he wouldn't be thrilled to sit and gorge if allowed). He also got to jump in a bouncy castle and bowl with a soccer ball from point-blank range, so he's completely satiated for the moment.
Tomorrow will be another story, since Eric's leaving for a Wisconsin trip and won't be back until Friday. The thought makes me want to run and hide, as well as sob. I already miss him (and not just for the extra set of hands that will be missing around the house for the week).
