Decorating

I just took down our Halloween decorations, and now I'm sad. It's too early to do Christmas stuff, but I always feel like "fall" decorations miss the mark, somehow. I feel a little ingenuine doing countryish apples and sprays of wheat, as I've always been more of a "city girl." What to do?

I wonder if we could just "ramp up" to Christmas, just starting with somewhat neutral decor and slowly adding in more holiday-specific stuff. For all I know, though, when we meet with our realtor this week, she'll tell us we shouldn't decorate much at all. Yuck.

Hehe... I tend to turn the jack-o-lanterns around so they are just pumpkins... and I have scarecrows all over. I do have a lot of fall decorations for Halloween that can last until Thanksgiving. I do like the idea of starting out small... snowmen and such in November... building up to Santa Thanksgiving weekend :)

take 2 vases one about 2 inches larger than the other put one inside of the other and fill the outter one with hazel nuts or cranberries or something of that sort and put in autumn colored flowers or candles and when it gets closer to Christmas just switch the flowers or candles. It turns out really cute

I say go for it! When we had our house on the market a couple years ago, our realtor thought our Easter decorations made the house look more homey. To go along with Nina's pinecone idea, you might try some of those berry garlands that are everywhere these days - red berries and other natural type things that you could add more Christmasy things to as the season progresses. Have fun!!!! I'm sure as you moved into your house you were already thinking of how to decorate it for the holidays - enjoy!!!

I've fallen in love with pinecones. They look very fall/winter, but if you just mass them without other items, they look very architectural rather than country. They sell some at craft stores that have been coated in some stuff that makes them smell like cinnamon...mmmmm.
