i am having 4 pulled this year and i am really scard.
what do they do?
My dental-phobic self didn't read the entry, but oh, Carrie. I'm still praying hard for you. Feel better. Blargh.
Oh Carrie - You still look so CUTE ;-) BUT miserable :-(
I will never leave a comment before ANY kind of medical proceeding, good or bad - again, not sure it helps a person.
I WOULD definitely tell the ofc-strongly, and confidently (which you are) that their bedside manner sucked BIG TIME, and what pain you have been in - both emotionally (because of waking up!) and physically.
I am so sorry - I have a red-headed sister, and will check her experience with pain meds...I know my black-haired sister has had night-marish experiences, like your's ... :-(
Thinking/praying for your MIL
I'm a very dark brunette and I can tell you I had the exact thing happen to me when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I wasn't going to tell you that before you went in because I didn't want to freak you out any more than you already were.
I woke up to them crumbling my very impacted tooth. That is a sound I will never forget. I can't remember now how many I was awake for. I had four pulled and two were really impacted. The other two were just pulled after the gum was opened up. I was a freshman in high school at the time.
I can tell you that eating things that are not soft for two weeks is not a good idea because I didn't listen and my sockets got infected. I was miserable for another two weeks so be careful! Hang in there!
What horrible bedside manner! If that was a "phobia-friendly" dentist, I'd hate to go to one who wasn't sympathetic. I would complain if I were you. Telling you to stop crying is unreal. Obviously they should have figured out that something was wrong and changed their plan to accomodate. I think I am officially the biggest wuss in the world and I went in to have my gall bladder removed, balling hysterically for every appointment. Everyone I met was very sympathetic. I'm sorry you've had such bad experiences.
Oooh. Yep, I think it's a redhead thing - I woke up in the middle of my extractions, as well. I hear it's something to do with the nerves in our mouths being in one big bundle, as opposed to all spread out, therefore it's impossible (legally) to get enough anasthaesia into that big bundle to really help us out.
Ugh. Impacted wisdom teeth. I hope you're feeling better soon, hon.
Oh, Carrie! How awful. I simply cannot believe they told you to stop crying! What the hell? Make sure you mention that to them--if not in person, then send the office manger or dentist a letter. That's unacceptable. They know it hurts beyond hurt. Why else do they anesthetize? Asses.
Gee, I thought that was supposed to be a "phobia-friendly" dentist office!
I hope you recover soon.
I don't know if I should have read that entry, in fact I know I shouldn't have but the temptation was too great. :( I hope you feel better very very soon.
I don't have a horror story to share, but maybe a chuckle will make you feel better! My Mom was driving my Dad home from having his wisdom teeth removed and he was still pretty out of it. He asked her how it went and she told him it went fine, but the dentist said no sex for six weeks. He let out a big moan and said oh no, put them back!!
Hope you're feeling better soon!
I feel your pain! Although I didn't have the horrid incident of waking up during the procedure, I woke up from sugery and found my legs had fallen asleep and I was determined they cut off my legs instead of taken out my teeth. I had them out on a Friday, and was told I would be ready to go back to school on Monday. HA! I was packing tea bags in my mouth the day after surgery to try and stop bleeding, I swelled up horrible, I was in mucho pain for days, and didn't make it back to school until Thursday, and even at that, I couldn't sing in choir for 2 weeks because I couldn't open my mouth wide enough! I am envious of all these people that have no problems! It was the worst experience for me. And it still haunts me! Because of how my teeth were impacted, they had to shatter them, and now, years after, every now and again I have tooth schrapnel head to the surface of my gum. However, my boyfriend is going in to have his out tomorrow, and I can only hope he has a better experience than us! However, eventually, it'll all be healed and life will return to its normal chaos!
