01/20/2002 Entry: "Exhausted"
This little boy woke up repeatedly, whimpering, all night long. He thrashed about, sighing and half-sobbing, searching for relief that wasn't to be met by nursing alone. I dosed him with Tina's Bonjela, which put him out almost immediately - for about half an hour. (I really should stop going back to fix my multiple horrendous typos, just to illustrate how exhausted I am.)
At 6:30, he woke me by jamming his finger in my nose. Okay, fine; we're awake.
Now he's discovered that he can sleep, but only lying on Mama's lap. Let Mama lie down too? Oh, heaven forbid.
Won't you run come see St. Judy's Comet
Roll across the skies
And leave a spray of diamonds
In its wake
I long to see St. Judy's Comet
Sparkle in your eyes
When you awake
Little boy, little boy
Won't you lay your body down
Little boy, little boy
Won't you close your weary eyes
Ain't nothing flashing but the fireflies...
(Paul Simon, St. Judy's Comet)

i dont have any children and likely wont for a few years yet BUT, i swear by bonjela. I have the worst teeth and bonjela can help to numb my mouth long enough to get to the dentist again.
in my humble non mothering, but in my big sister and babysitter mode, if it works, its not poisonous and it gives you and bub relief then go for it!

I didn't mean to say sleepless nights so much than fitful sleep/waking up during the night.

I consulted with my son's pediatrician along with one of her partners and they both feel that Bonjela won't cause any problems in any arena. The reason why I checked it out is because it has a high alcohol content (33%), but when you take into respect that our moms and mom's moms would rub gin on some of our gums and we turned out okay, you tend to put things into perspective.
My son, Ethan, is 17 months old now and has 16 healthy pearly whites with more coming in at present and I've been using Bonjela on him since 5 months old and have had absolutely no problems. In fact, his teeth pretty much came one after the other pretty fast.
Carrie, I'm glad that the Bonjela is working for you, even if only in small amounts. I remember exactly what you're going through. At Sammy's age, learning so much makes it tough to sleep. Must be all the brain action they get during the day that it's so hard to sleep from all the excitement from learning all these new activities. I remember Ethan went through about a 6-month or more period of having sleepless nights (from about 5/6 months - about 13 months), but when you think about it, he learned to crawl, cruise, stand, walk and run in that amount of time.
And that has to account for something. :)

We like the Hyland's most of the time, but lately he's taken to spitting them out and screaming. :-( Poor boy. What he really likes to soothe his gums are computer cables. Yummy!

Hyland's teething tablets worked like magic for CJ and Meredith. I worry about teething gels because there's some talk that the numbing agents can toughen the gums, making it more difficult for the teeth to pop through.
