01/28/2002 Entry: "New entry, 1/28"
There's a new one up in the journal, full of hideous pictures of my youth.

Carrie, thank you for a wonderful entry.
I remember what it was like taking a field trip to the Montgomery (Ala.) Shakespeare festival and having the AP English classmates pass the bus time by writing journal entries like "you know you're bored when you talk with Ashley and have an intelligent conversation."
Or getting the AP test results back in that same class and scoring a 5 (getting me credit for 2 semesters of college English) and having the teacher say "You weren't supposed to make a 5. Marty was supposed to make the 5."
At the time, I thought I'd never get over such slights and insults. I wondered what was wrong with me (never realizing the correct question was what was wrong with them).
But here it is 10 years later, I'm married, have a 27-month-old son, and am actually getting job satisfaction at employment many high school classmates would look down on.
And the classmates? My husband, ironically enough, went to college with many of them before he and I met. He told me they were jerks even then!
:)

Carrie, your entry made me cry. Your childhood reminds me so much of mine, the ridicule, working through it, the self confidence that appears. You give me hope that someday I'll be as happy as you and have a cute redheaded baby :)
