04/05/2002 Entry: "Posting spree!"

I'm on a mad posting spree!

Oh, my sweetness and light, Sam is so close to walking. He just started cruising the walls without the benefit of furniture or ledges - just hands pressed to the surface for balance help. When he stopped a foot or so away from me, I held my hands out for him to see if he would walk to me, but he wouldn't leave the wall; he just whimpered until I came close enough for him to grab my hand.

Nine months old, mind you. Did I sign up for an overachiever?

Ah, Carrie, you have my sympathy. Alice walked at 9.5 months (and her cousin walked at 8.5 mos)! I guess there are pluses and minuses to early, average, and late walkers. With an early walker, you at least get to get that "I wanna walk and I CAN'T" frustration over with soon, but OTOH, they are just CAREENING at that age with no concept of safety or personal control... *sigh* I remember going to LLL meetings and seeing Alice's agemates sitting quietly on their blankies with a few toys while I chased her all around the circle and missed half the meeting.

He might be walking well by summer though and you can let him play outside without worrying about him falling constantly. Rebekah walked closer to her first birthday (June), and that first summer with her very unsteady was a pain :-P
