04/16/2002 Entry: "Awful day"
Oh, good grief, yesterday was an awful day!
After the bee incident, my heartrate had just about returned to normal when I glanced at Sam's face and saw what I perceived to be streams of blood running from his mouth. Turns out that we bought him the brand of crayons that melt in your mouth, not in your hands! I had just finished wiping the red from his mouth and tossing the paper towel in the trash when I saw that he was happily re-dying his face - this time black.
(Mind you, he does know what crayons are really for. The top surface of his desk will attest to that fact. Paper is too easily tossed to the floor to allow for desk coloring. Methinks I need to start taping down the paper.)
When, not ten minutes later, I saw a second bee (die, sucker, die!), I decided that we were leaving the house. Fresh start, you know? We went out to the park. Well, firstwe had to get some sunscreen for the boy. Was he grateful for the added protection? His loud protests as I applied it would indicate otherwise.
We had fun on the equipment, especially the swings, but Sam began to complain soon. He wanted to be held, snuggled, close to Mommy's neck, regardless of the 85 degree weather. I complied, but his sweaty head made me think that our sojourn was at an end. I carried him back to the car...
...where he went into full-blown meltdown mode. He did not want to leave the park! He did not want to get into the car! I comforted him as best I could and we headed home; he fell asleep after a few minutes, giving me hope that he would awaken refreshed and happy.
Nope. He grumped for the rest of the evening, even through his usually beloved bath. He finally conked out early, leaving me to breathe a sigh of relief.
That is, until he woke up at midnight, ready to play. Gah.

Ha! I went through the SAME EXACT THING! We got the "washable" Crayola crayons. And yessireebob, they certainly don't waste anytime melting in the mouth. lol! I think we'll be working with the regular, unwashable crayons from now on.

Our brood was treading the fine line of meltdowns all day, too, until we finally went to the park and had fruit pops. I think it may have been first day of hot weather blues. I know that _I_ wasn't prepared for the weather!
