05/24/2002 Entry: "Homebirthers"

We went to playgroup today. The plan had been to meet at the playground, or the library if it was raining. Big, fat raindrops started to fall as we got on the road, so we went on ahead to the library, thinking we'd meet everyone there.

Half an hour later, we were still the only playgroup members there. Sam didn't mind, as there were other little ones there for him to chase and pester. I was slightly blue, though; I missed my friends. Two other mommies were there, and I eavesdropped until one asked me about Sam. I shyly entered their conversation.

A while later, just as the ladies were beginning to give their kids the signal to get ready to leave, I stumbled onto the fact that one of the ladies had birthed her child at home! And she was newly pregnant, new to the area, and looking for midwives! I happily gave her my number (and she called just a minute ago to get Barb's contact info).

And then our playgroup arrived.
