05/30/2002 Entry: "Rocker"

Sam is obsessed.

Today, after taking back a rented DVD, we stopped at Cracker Barrel for breakfast. (Sam had a scrambled egg, which he dipped into ketchup, then sucked.) Afterwards, we went outside, where the restaurant has adult and child-sized wooden rocking chairs. I plopped Sam into one of the kid ones, just to see what he'd do.

He rocked. And he rocked. Then he climbed out, rocked it with his hands, and laughed. He sat back down and rocked some more. This went on forever, as other diners went in and out of the door and waved at the precious sight.

Since those particular chairs were seventy dollars and up, I took Sam on over to Toy$ R U$, where he repeated the entire procedure with another little rocker. I showed him some other child-sized chairs, but his eyes were for the wooden rocking chair only.

I still resist the idea of spending almost forty dollars on a little rocker. I'm calling Mom tonight to see if she still has either mine or my brother's rocking chairs, or if they were sold at yard sales as I fear they were. Our thrift stores are pretty bad, so I think I have little chance of getting a good deal on a used one.

My daughter loves rocking chairs, too. My mother painted a wooden kid sized one for her for Christmas that she bought unfinished at Michaels. I don't remember the exact price but it was pretty reasonable.

It's funny how babies are so set in their ways. :)

The Wal-marts in my area now carry a wooden rocking chair for only $15. It's worth a shot.

We have a rocking chair that was mine and Rebecca recently "discovered" it and she thinks it's a hoot, too. Stand and rock it. Climb into it and rock. Best though, is to push it across the living room to a likely high shelf, climb onto it, stand up and get things off the shelf! What a fun game!

I know from previous experience that Cracker Barrel often will mark down their "damaged" chairs and sell them out - but you often have to ask the manager of the store for assistance. Can't hurt to try. We got a double rocker this way for a great price!

That is so cute!! I just bought Brittany a patio set to use out on our porch so she can have her little te parties outside - lol :-)
