06/20/2002 Entry: "Heat"

So, it's sweltering here. If I had a car, I'd have taken Sam and myself off to the swimming pool, but since I don't, it's a moot point. If I had a pump, I'd inflate our little pool anduse that, but since I don't, and since I'm not about to try to blow up the thing manually in this heat, that won't serve either.

So we play with water bottles, and we whine. Rather, Sam whines about the heat, and I whine because he's being the original Velcro-Baby and doesn't realize that sweaty skin on sweaty skin makes us both feel worse.

Ironically, the only time he hasn't been whining today was when I took him on a walk outside in his wagon. You know, in the ninety-something degree heat. Somehow, that was okay with him in a way that our darkened, air-conditioned, fanned living room isn't. Not so for Mama, so we came home after an hour and after demolishing a Freeze-Pop from the corner store. (Oh, did he love that!)

Back to the whine-stone.

We filled our inflatable pool up using a hair dryer and it was pretty quick and worth it. But ours didnt have a cool setting, and Dean thinks it would have been better if it had. Caleb keeps wanting to go outside too and I hate being hot and sweaty so if we arent in the pool we dont go out much. He always protest by banging on the front door and the living room window.
