07/09/2002 Entry: "Girly?"

So, I finished knitting my first hat and scarf set. It was supposed to be a Christmas gift for one of my male relatives, but now Eric says the hat might be a little too "girly." True, or a bunch of bunk?

Not too girly. Eric is imagining things.

I vote not girly. I'd wear it! I think it looks very good. Well done!

I absolutely love this set, Carrie but I tend to agree with Eric and say that the hat looks a little too girly. I think that what is making me think this is the "rim". I bet if it weren't rolled up, it would look more manly. Can it be rolled down?

Or maybe it's just because you look so damn cute in it that I am having a hard time envisioning it in a man!:)

I'm on the vote for not girly. It looks like the Fair Isle jumpers (sweaters) that my Dad wears. It's a very celtic look, reminds me of fishermen and shepherds, that sort of look.

And it's never girly to be warm!

Definite vote for not too girly. I know guys on both coasts who would love that set.

Well, all the girls are saying it's not too girly and all the guys are saying it is, and I think in this case they are the experts. But my two cents says this set would make any man look Irish, and Irish = sexy.

I vote on not girly. It's manly enough that a guy could wear it, but I agree with Diana, it looks good on you too! I'm impressed, I sure as heck can't put the needles together like you! : )

I think a guy woulkd like it its not a girlie stich or color it a nice big MANLY stich I think it would look good on a guy!

Well, it looks fabulous on your Carrie, if it's too girly you should keep it :) I say no though on it being too girly - it's a gender neutral color that goes with everything. Great job!

Very nice, not too girly but would be maybe more "manly" in a darker shade. I'm jealous, I've been SO wanting to learn to knit but I don't know that I could teach myself.

Well, I vote nay and my hubby voted nay. So there you have it!!
The general concensus in this house is that it is *not* too girly, though hubby did say he would have preferred a darker color had it been for him.
Very nice work!!! Handmade gifts are always nicer.

I don't think it is too girly, either. Since it was knit on such big needles, I think that makes it much more 'manly'. I can't wait to see the sweater that is in progress!

I vote on not girly. My dad has a navy hat that looks just like the one you made. He wears it all the time during the winter. It looks good, too, IMHO :)
