07/14/2002 Entry: "Yesterday"
We ended up going to Sauder Village yesterday, since they were having their big annual festival, with ice cream making, fiddle contests, and lots of other activities. It was a long, hot day, but we all had a great time (well, apart from the battle I had getting Eric to be fired up about the idea; he did concede later that he'd had fun).
Later in the evening, as we were lying in bed and Sam was nursing to sleep, Sam suddenly sat up, gagged a couple of times, and threw up on Eric's pillow. He seemed to be feeling fine, though, and after we cleaned him up, he went back to nursing and went to sleep. I sat for a while, thinking about it, and suddenly realized why he'd done it.
"Think about it, Eric; he's had cookies, ice cream, lemonade, fudge...I'd throw up, too!"
(Of course, that's not all he ate all day. He ate quite a lot of vegetables and other healthy foods as well. It was the addition of the sweets to his normal diet that did him in, I'm sure. Ah, well. We learned our lesson!)

Oh, wow. Sauder Village. I haven't been there in ten years, I bet. One of the best days I have spent, tho. I am disappointed that I never tried The Barn. My ex-husband graduated from Archbold, but we didn't visit often. Sometimes I miss NW Ohio. Thinking about Sauder Village made me realize just how much.

You'll just have to hit the diner when you come back! :c) (Hurrah for NW Ohio!)
BTW, the diner is called Mom's Diner...

Never been to Greenfield Village. Is it like Sauder? I wish I'd known about the diner in Archbold; Eric would have loved it.
Sam is picky about certain things, but for the most part, he's just happy as long as he can feed himself. He did loathe mashed carrots, but enjoys them whole.

Sauder Village is a LOT of fun -- and only 20 mins from my house! :c) They have a great restaurant right there, too. It's called The Barn, and it's good homestyle food -- with a killer salad bar (and reasonably priced!). Also in Archbold is a fifties-style diner that's a lot of fun -- and The Candy Cane Shop -- a year-round Christmas store that's really cute! Who knew Archbold, Ohio was such a fun place? Hardly anyone -- but it is!
I can also vouch for Greenfield Village -- that's really neat, too.

Is Sam fussy with ways certain foods are served? The reason I ask is that my nephew (sweet little boy of 9.5 months) refuses to eat bananas any way other than sliced lengthwise. My sister tried feeding them to him mashed with his cereal and he had a mouthful and spat it out. She tried just plain mashed banana and ditto. He likes holding the piece and biting it best. Strange baby ways.

David wanted to know if you've ever been to Greenfield Village, up in MI? I asked him if he'd been to Sauder Village, and he said it was a great place and that I'd like it there.. and that Greenfield Village is pretty cool, too. I'm excited about all these places I'll be visiting someday. :)
