07/29/2002 Entry: "Weekend"
It's true; Eric and I really do get along better when we're busy and not just sitting around, waiting for life to happen to us. This was a really, really good weekend for us.
We cleaned. Hee!
It was actually fun. Yesterday afternoon, I made a list of all the chores that needed to be done around the house, everything from reorganizing the kitchen closet to weeding the bookshelves. Then we cut the list into slips of paper, put them into a hat, and each drew three slips. When we finished those, we drew three more. And more. They didn't all get done, but we had such a satisfying experience with it that we're planning to make this a regular system for us. During the week, we may just choose one slip each, and on the weekends, we'll have a full-fledged "cleaning day."
The proof that it worked for us? When Sam had gone to bed for the night and we were both exhausted and sweaty from our efforts, we jumped in the shower together and...um. Well, let's just say that we weren't as tired as we thought.
And my kitchen shelves look gorgeous! I'm a pleased woman, purring like a kitten.

I forgot to tell you that the entire project (good quality wood shelf, paints, brushes, everything) only cost me $20.

Since you're already interested in knitting, I know you like crafty things. This past weekend, we all went to Pat Catan's and Michaels (different days - Michael's is closer and I had forgot something) and bought one of those ready-to-finish single wall shelves made out of wood, some acrylic paint (an 8 oz. bottle of white, smaller in 5 primary colors), a couple of brushes, brush cleaner, and little 1.5" wood letters. We painted the wall shelf white and I painted the little wooden letters "E"T"H"A"N" and when the paint was dry, I hot-glued the letters in a jumbled fashion on the shelf along with some 25-cent already painted butterfly and bird and frog. It turned out really nice and if I owned a webcam, I'd take a picture so you could see how professional and perfect it turned out.
I think it would be a great project for you and Eric to do - get him involved in the crafts! Cleaning is great for accomplishment, but there's nothing like getting creative and seeing your little project and knowing that you both made it - and there's nothing like something homemade.
Just an idea!

Good for you! I so know that feeling! Are you a Virgo by any chance? I don't put too much stock in horoscopes, but I thought I was the only one who would purr from organized cabinets... ;)

Oh, the purring is from it all! I just feel so at peace with the world, in all its capacities. :-)

Now be honest...are you purring because your kitchen shelves are gorgeous or umm...because of the "fun" you had in the shower? Hehe. ;)

Yay! Glad to hear it was so great. Sounds like an interesting shower. ;-)
